On July 22, 1930, employees of the Orlando Post office got their own financial institution. On that date Orlando Postal Service Credit Union (OPSCU) was granted its certificate of organization and the 44 original members were starting an organization: “…for the benefit of the (postal) employes [sic] who can invest money and at the same time borrow money at a reasonable rate of interest.” The Credit Union was led by Harold F.. Anderson, one of the founding members and also the Credit Union’s first President.

The Credit Union started its history in the (then) downtown post office and courthouse on 46 E Robinson Avenue where they were located in between the years 1930-1941, relocated slightly within the same block to 40 E Central Avenue from 1941-1978. 1978 the Credit Union moved its main office to 301 East Michigan Street where it still resides but with the addition of four more branches in Lake Mary, Winter Garden, Melbourne and at the Tradeport postal facilitiy.

2005 marked the 75th anniversary for Central Florida Postal Credit Union, the name it adopted in 1997 to better describe the area that the organization serves. With branch locations in downtown Orlando, Tradeport, Melbourne, Winter Garden and Lake Mary, central Florida indeed has its own postal Credit Union.

Many financial institutions have merged, changed or even disappeared over the course of their existence, but Central Florida Postal Credit Union (CFPCU) can pride itself in staying true to the Credit Union concept. The “benefit” of competitive rates for investing and lending are still the main focus to assist in building a better financial foundation for its members. However, the amount of services offered are the same or similar to most financial institutions.
The mission of CFPCU is: “To deliver dreams by building a caring, lifelong, financial partnership with our members” and with a 75 year history combined with a bright future the delivery of dreams seems to continue. The first President, Harold F. Anderson said in an interview on the opening date in 1930: “This organization has a fine start and should be a great help to the employes of the…post office”. 76 years has passed and CFPCU IS experiencing a “fine” start and with no intentions of reaching the finish line within the next 75 years…
